Valve guides. Over time valve guides get worn and damaged and it essential as part of a full engine rebuild to ensure valve seats are to the correct tolerance. Along with the valve spring, it serves to positively locate the valve so that it may make proper contact with the valve seat.
A valve guide is a cylindrical piece of metal, pressed or integrally cast into the cylinder head, with the valve reciprocating inside it. Guides also serve to conduct heat from the combustion process out from the exhaust valve and into the cylinder head where it may be taken up by the cooling system. A balance between stiffness and wear on the valve is essential to achieve a useful service life. The clearance between the inner diameter of the valve guide and the outer diameter of the poppet valve stem is critical for the proper performance of an engine. If there is too little clearance, the valve may stick as oil contaminants and thermal expansion become factors. If there is too much clearance, the valve may not seat properly and excessive oil consumption can occur.

In the picture we have a Mustang drag racing engine being inspected after a catastrophic failure. Firstly we fully disassembled the engine and thoroughly cleaned it with our high pressure system. Guide seats were then re cut using our Serdi machine.

Power Hone
In our fully kitted out engine remanufacturing workshop we use a Rottler HP6A power hone. This powerful yet accurate machine brings cylinders back to true and removed distortion. With its electronic readout we can see and abnormalities in the cylinders profile and ensure the power hone brings the cylinder back to true. This is just one of the comprehensive engine remanufacturing processes we use to bring your engine back to life.
Cylinder bore deformations during engine operation cause a number of problems in piston ring lubrication. Particularly, the deterioration of piston ring and cylinder bore conformability results in a significant increase in lubricating oil consumption. All these factors decrease efficiency of your engine and could lead to further damage. An accurate powerful machine like the Rottler HP6A is essential.
In the picture we have a Ford Transit 2.4 Duratorque engine having it’s cylinder being brought back to true. A workhorse of a vehicle the Ford Transit is renowned for being a great van. Crankshaft regrinding
As part of our comprehensive engine reconditioning we use a Prince 60-75 re-grinder to give a great finish. In the picture we have a crankshaft from a Peogeot HDi engine that needed a full overhaul. However we can remanufacture any classic car, modern petrol or diesel or light commercial engine.

As part of our comprehensive engine reconditioning we use a Berco Boring machine. Operated by our skilled engineers we re-bore engines to exacting tolerances.
In the picture we have a rare classic DeSoto Firedome engine being re-bored. (The DeSoto Firedome was produced 1952-1959 by DeSoto automobiles a division of the Chrysler Corporation in the U.S. It had the distinctive wings associated with American 1950’s cars. Only 8000 were ever made.)
In our workshop we regularly recondition classic car engines to the highest specification and as such we give a 1 years warranty on our work. Our Reconditioning is comprehensive and follows a rigorous procedure which ensures your treasured engine is restored as best as possible to as near perfect condition as possible. Rarities and classics are a pleasure to recondition however more modern engines are taken care every day of the week to the same high standards.
Our comprehensive Engine reconditioning includes:
Each engine is completely dismantled and thoroughly cleaned using an Ultra high pressure and environmentally friendly wash system, then each component receives individual treatment as follows: Camshafts are either replaced with a new unit, or re-profiled to their original specifications.
Cylinder Heads are thoroughly cleaned using an ultra-high pressure and environmentally friendly wash system. The heads are checked for distortion and thickness then inspected for cracks and the camshaft bores measured for size, shape and alignment.
The valves are examined for damage, head thickness, and stem wear then replaced as necessary; valve guides are measured for wear and replaced as required; valve seats are machined to the correct angles, widths, heights and seating concentric to the centre line of the valve guide bore; and valve springs are checked for extended and compressed height and compressed load length. When each head is machined, particular attention is paid to maintaining the correct surface finish specified by the gasket manufacturer.
Crankshafts are micro polished after grinding to achieve the exact dimensions and surface finish required; diesel cranks are crack tested; sealing diameters and nose ends are measured and reclaimed if necessary; blended radii, thrust wear and alignment are checked; and all oil galleries are de-burred and thoroughly cleaned.
Cylinder Blocks are re-bored or re-sleeved, and honed to regain the precise surface finish and cross-hatch; main housings are measured for size, roundness and alignment, and machined as required. Connecting Rods are checked for alignment and then weight-graded into engine sets; housings are measured for size, round and taper, and machined as required, small-end bushes are renewed.
Oil Pump pressure relief valves are dismantled and cleaned; the clearance between the rotor and body is measured; and all worn/broken parts are replaced. We always use components of the same standard or better as those originally fitted and to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Using a rollover jig off the main housing diameters to make sure that extremely high levels of accuracy and to guarantee that all machining is concentric to the mains. We are also able to re-face and line hone the block to return it to its true specifacations in order to remove any distortion in the cylinder block itself.

• Pressure testing Pressurising the coolant system identifies leaks and cracks that require repair.
• Block re-facing Re-facing cylinder block back to true in the event of damage or distortion.

• Line boring Line boring is a machining process that establishes perfectly straight bores for crankshaft and camshaft housings, our equipment ensures the block housing is remanufactured to true.
• Con rod honing Machine both connecting faces of the con rod then re-hone the bore to ensure it is remanufactured to true.
• Camshaft bearing fitting Removing and refit worn or damaged bearings. We also offer manufacturing of bespoke bearings. We can also line bore the bearings to customer specifications.
• Small end bush remanufacturing and replacement Removing small end bushes and re-bore to ensure all con rods are the correct length.
• Diamond cylinder honing Using diamond honing to ensure cylinder re-bore finishes are within 2 microns.
